Saraki is being tried on charges of asset declaration fraud brought against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
According to reports, Nigeria’s Senators have received a text message inviting them to accompany Senate President, Bukola Saraki to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) today, November 5, 2015.
Saraki is being tried on charges of asset declaration fraud brought against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
“Gdevenin
Distinguished. Wish to inform dt Buses are available 2moro mrnin to
convey Senators wishing to accompany H/E d Senate President.”
“Departure is at 9 am frm d house @ 22 Yesderam Str. by IGP’s House Maitama. Rgrds. -Arthur (dir. of Prot. S/P).”
About 81 Senators had accompanied Saraki to the tribunal on October 21 to show their support for him.
The CCT however
adjourned the case till today to allow the Court of Appeal make its
ruling on the matter after Saraki approached the court to challenge the
tribunal's jurisdiction to try him.
The Appeal Court subsequently ruled in favour of the tribunal hence the Senate President’s trial is expected to continue.
Meanwhile, Saraki has also approached the Supreme Court to halt the trial.
The
CCB is accusing the Senate President of anticipatory declaration of
assets and failure to declare assets acquired while he was governor of
Kwara State.
